Washoe County Sheriff Joins Fight to Defeat Question One Gun Control Ballot Initiative

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

Reno, NV --  Washoe County Sheriff Chuck Allen announced today that he opposes the Question 1 gun control ballot initiative and will fight alongside NRA Nevadans for Freedom to defeat it. Question 1 is an initiative largely bought and paid for by New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg. NRA Nevadans for Freedom is a grassroots organization aimed at protecting Nevadans from a measure that would cost them their time, money, and freedom.

"As Sheriff of Washoe County, one of my fundamental principles and promises to the citizens is to fight any legislation that would infringe upon or restrict our Second Amendment rights," said Washoe County Sheriff Chuck Allen. "Question 1 gun control initiative would make criminals out of law-abiding citizens, tax already scarce law enforcement resources, while doing nothing to stop criminals or make us any safer. I will fight to protect Nevada gun rights from attacks by outside groups."

"We welcome Sheriff Allen to our grassroots effort to preserve freedom in Nevada. Allen has served his countrymen for more than 30 years in the military and law enforcement. He knows from experience that government mandates and taxes on private gun transfers will do nothing to stop criminals and only make it harder for law abiding citizens to defend themselves," said Catherine Mortensen, NRA Nevadans for Freedom spokesperson.

NRA Nevadans for Freedom is gearing up for a serious fight to defeat Question 1. NRA Nevadans for Freedom recently hired Robert Uithoven to manage the grassroots campaign to defeat Question 1 and launched a website aimed at educating voters on the truth about the gun control initiative and combating the misinformation campaign being waged by out-of-state gun control groups.

Sheriff Allen's guest column in today's Reno-Gazette Journal: Allen: Question 1 would mean more gun restrictions on law-abiding Nevadans
